Symptoms of Stress

The symptoms of stress can be so minor that you may not even notice the
symptom. Conversely, they could be so great as to be life-threatening. Examples? How about being tired? It’s hard to tell whether that’s caused by not getting enough sleep or whether you’re stressed out. However, if you’re chronically tired, then it may be more than lack of sleep (unless lack of sleep is also caused by your stress).

Then there’s the all-out emergency, such as a heart attack. If
you’re in relatively good health, stress may be the culprit.

But the symptoms of stress go beyond the physical disorders that are
relatively easy to spot. How about the behavioral symptoms?
Chronic stress can make you irritable, cause unnecessary worry, and just
plain make your life miserable.

In the next two sections, we’ll cover the various symptoms associated
with stress. As you read, try to determine if any of these
symptoms affect you. Later, we’ll go through some tests to help
you determine your overall stress level.
